Legal Proceesings: Court Dismisses Lawsuit Aiming to Remove Damagum as National Chair of PDP Amid Ongoing Crisis

The Katsina State High Court has dismissed a lawsuit aimed at removing Umar Iliya Damagum from his position as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The suit, initiated by PDP member Ibrahim Musa, contested Damagum’s appointment , asserting that the process to replace former National Chairman Dr. Iyorchi Ayu was unconstitutional.

However, Justice Abdullahi Bawa-Faskari ruled that the issue falls within the internal governance of the party, and this exceeds the court’s jurisdiction.

The judge upheld the preliminary objections raised by the first and second defendants, stating that the case is “not justiciable “ as it relates exclusively to party matters.

Musa argued that Ayu’s successor should have been selected from the the North-Central geographical zone, the region from which Ayu originates.

According to Justice Bawa-Faskari “The matter is not justiciable being one which falls entirely within the internal affairs of the party, and the court has no jurisdiction,”
