The 16th Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, presided over his first emirate council meeting with district heads and senior traditional council memevers on Sunday at the Gidan Rumfa palace.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) assumed the superior responsibility of the emirate by leading the inaugural expanded council meeting following his reinstatement on Friday by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
With over 40 district heads and senior council members renewing their allegiance to the new emir, the tension surrounding the emirship in the state has finally dissipated.
Upon taking residence in the palace, 40 districts heads and council memebers prosptrated themselves before him, signifying their official endorsement of his position as the rightful Emir of Kano.
Notable among those who paid homage were the five kingmakers : Madaki, Wali, Manama, Sarkin Bai, and Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta.
Others included Waziri, Turaki, Sarkin Shanu, Danburan, Dan Isa, Dan Lawan, Dan Amar Magajin Gari, Dan Majen, Dan Kade, Matawalle, Sarkin Fulanin Jaidanawa, Magajin Malam, Dokaji, and Dandarman Kano.
The remaining members were Marafa, Dallatu, Magajin Rafi, Sarkin Fada, Bunun, Basura, Dan Madamin, Dan Galadima, Talba, San Turaki, Dangoriba, Dan Maliki, Falaki, Yarima, Baraya, Zanna, Yan Daka, Fagaci, Dan Masani, and Wakilin Barden Kano.
The emir subsequently met with various interest groups, including the vigilante, women’s organizations, private individuals, and well-wishers who had gathered at the palace to show their respects and loyalty.
Before the council meeting, Emir Sanusi, greeted with admiration and jubilation, emerged in grand style on a white royal horse from his inner palace at the famous Gidan Rumfa, acknowledging warm greetings from his subjects.
Emir Sanusi reclaimed his position as Emir on Thursday’s following the assent of the repealed law by Governor Yusuf.
The new law overruled the 2019 version, which divided the Kano emirate into five distinct regions and served as the basis for Sanusi’s removal as Emir of Kano.
