Commodore Adams-Aliu Assumes Role as Spokesperson for Nigeria Navy

Commodore Aiwuyor Augustine Adams-Aliu assumes the role of Director of Naval Information for the Nigerian Navy, succeeding Rear Admiral Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan. His appointment, endorsed by Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff, was announced in a press release by Rear Admiral JD Apkan, the Naval Chief of Policy and Plans. Born on December 15, 1977, in Lagos, Commodore Adams-Aliu brings a wealth of experience, including a background in journalism from his father, Sir Adams-Aliu, a former editor with Daily times of Nigeria. After completing his education at Shepherd Hill Primary School, Kings College Lagos, and the Nigeria Defence Academy, he was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2000. Throughout his career, he has undertaken various professional courses, including those at esteemed institutions like the United States Army Infantry school, the Armed forces Command and Staff College, and both the Naval War Colleges in Nigeria and the United States.

Adams-Aliu embarked on his naval journey in 2000, serving as a Watch Keeping Officer abroad various Nigerian Navy Ships until 2004. He expanded his experience as a military observer in the United Nations Mission in Liberia from 20011 to 2012. Leading roles followed, including Officer in Charge of Nigerian Navy Ship BENIN and Squadron Commander of SHALDAG Boat squadron from 2013 to 2014, and later, as the Pioneer Commanding Officer of Nigeria Navy Ship KARADUWA from 2016 to 2018.

Transitioning to staff roles, he served as the Principal Staff Officer (Navy) to the Chief of Defence Staff from 2019 to 2020, before pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Strategic Security Studies at the National Defence University, Washington DC, graduating in 2021 with the distinction of Most Outstanding International Fellow. Returning to Nigeria, he assumed roles at the Naval War College and later became the Commanding Officer of Forward Operating Base BADAGRY in March 2023.

In January 2024, he was appointed Deputy Director Plans at Naval Headquarters, quickly followed by a promotion to the post of Director Naval Information (DINFO) the next month. Adams-Aliu’s diverse career, spanning command, staff duties, and training, prepared him for these elevated responsibilities. His accolades include the Passed Staff Course, Medal, Nigerian Navy Command at Sea Badge, and the title of Distinguished Fellow of the Naval War College.

Commodore Adams-Aliu is associated with various professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Nigerian Institute of International Security (IIPS), and the United States Naval Institute (USIN). He finds joy in his marriage to Dr. Loretta, and they are blessed with three children.
