The Obi-Datti spokesman, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has responded to claims by Mr. Calistus Okafor that Labour Party National Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, gave the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, N850 million for the 2023 election.
Tanko refuted the claim, stating that Obi did not receive any funds from the party and describing the allegation as false.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Tanko emphasized that it was actually Obi who provided financial support to the party. He challenged Okafor to provide evidence if the chairman indeed claimed to have given Obi money for the campaign.
Tanko asserted that, as someone deeply involved in the campaign and aware of most expenses, he knew that the party never directly funded Obi’s campaign rallies across the country.
He further stressed that Ibu and his supporters were aware of the recent smear campaigns against the Labour Party leader, orchestrated by those threatened by his growing popularity among Nigerians.
”We are aware that people are already scheming for 2927 and it is unfortunate that certain individuals have chosen to divert attention from the high rate of insecurity and poverty that are currently threatening the very existence of our nation by constantly attacking the personality of Peter Obi.”
”Those are the enemies of Nigeria and Nigerians but I know that God will disappoint them and rescue our country from their grips whether they believe it or not,” he said.
