This morning, May 14, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Rescources in Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab, issued a 48-hour contravention notice to property owners in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo, who have built structures on the Right-of-Way of drainage Chaney. Wahab shared the notice on his social media handle.
Two weeks ago, the demolition occurred in Mende, during which an impacted resident claimed they were only given a two-hour notice to evacuate the property before demolition. Additionally, the state government has been criticized for not providing adequate notice to affected residents prior to the demolition of structures.
In an effort to address this misconception, the Commissioner posted the notice and wrote;
”The Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources . @LasgMOE
“Has issued a 48-hour contravention notice to owners of properties built on Right-of-Way of drainage channel in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo.
