Upon assuming office s the newly sworn-in deputy governor of Edo State, Godwins Omobayo announced that he has encountered an existing plan. He pledged to adhere to the established master plan. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Omobayo expressed gratitude for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s timely and wise decision in appointing him.

He said

“I already met a plan on ground and all i need is to flow along with it. For instance, the government is done with the Benin masterplan; we are working on Edo Central and Edo North masterplans, and i happen to be critical of the design even before now. For Edo North, we have a lot of natural resources and we have illegal people coming to mine them, thus posing environmental hazards. We are incorporating the GIS system so that all of that will be captured and more importantly, to deliver our candidate for the September 2024 election. I am sure that with what the governor has done for our people now, we will get more than 80 per cent of votes from Akoko-Edo.”

Following the impeachment of his predecessor, Philip Shaibu, Godwins Omobayo assumed the role of the deputy governor of Edo State. Shaibu’s impeachment occurred after the state House of Assembly adopted the report of the Justice S. A. Omonua (retd)-led impeachment panel, which was established by the Chief judge of Edo State to probe allegations of misconduct and perjury against Shaibu. During the plenary session on Monday, April 8, 2024, eighteen out of twenty lawmakers present voted in favour of the impeachment, while one voted against it.
