Rivers Crisis Continues: Amaewhule-led Assembly Overrides Fubara, Passes LG Bill Into Law

The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Martins Amaewhule, passed the Rivers State Local Government Bill into law, overriding Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s veto.

Initially denied approval on March 13, 2024, the bill was reintroduced by Mayor Jack, representing Akuku/Toru constituency 1.

After thorough debate, the bill was passed . Additionally, the Assembly confirmed nominees for the Assembly Service Commission, including Sampson Worlu as chairman and others as members. The Amaewhule-led Assembly is pressing for local government elections before Fubara’s tenure ends, although the governor has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
