Food Scarcity: Kano Gov Appeals to Tinubu to Reopen Land Border

Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State, during a formal meeting with the Controller-General of Customs, MrAdewale ADeniyi, on Monday in Kano, diplomatically urged President Tinubu to consider reopening land borders as a strategic initiative to bolster national food security. Expressing concern over the challenging economic conditions faced ny Nigerians, Kabir-Yusuf emphasized that such a decision would serve as a crucial measure of mitigate inflation and reduce the prices of essential food commodities.

The governor extended gratitude to the president for designating Kano as the host for the ongoing national food initiative, anticipating that its implementation would alleviate the effect of food scarcity. Kabir-Yusuf emphasized the urgency of the Federal Government reopening borders to facilitate the free importance of commodities, further contributing to the availability and affordability of food for the populace .

In addition, he commended the Custom’s food distribution scheme, urging proactive measures to prevent the diversaion f commodities. The governor pledged unwavering support to the Customs Service for effective discharge of its mandate.

During the interaction, Mr Adeniyi underscored the need for seamless collaboration between the Customs Service and the Kano community, reaffirming the commitment to refining business processes and engaging stakeholders to address food insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
